Using Firefox to Blog

An extension for Firefox was introduced this week so I thought I would give it a try.

I can’t find a button for viewing this post on the actual blog, so I am not sure what it will look like. I have put a check in the “draft” box and click on “save note”. When I log into my WordPress account, I do not see the draft. If the post is written using the Firefox extension, I assume it can not be edited through my WordPress account. Once it is published, will I be able to revise it using WordPress or will I have to use the Firefox extension?

RSS Feeds

I understand the difference between bookmarks and feeds (the class blog makes it very clear), but I am not sure about feed readers. Firefox lists my feeds across the top in the toolbar. IE puts them in my Favorites. Maybe I need to read that section again.

Time to publish

No time like the present to click that button and hope for the best!

If You Died Today…..

You read it in the headlines or hear it on the news everyday. Fatal accident, murder, or death by natural causes. It can happen with no warning.

What rights or responsibilities does your spouse have? If you are in a common law relationship, do you know the laws in your state? If you are single and have children, will they know what to do? If you are an adult but have no spouse or children, do your parents know your life well enough to make your decisions?

This may seem like a morbid subject, but I think about it all of the time. I am a widow with one adult child that I dearly love, but she has no sense of responsibilty where finances are concerned. She is a single mother of two girls, 9 and 16 years old, that hopefully will not be like their mother. When put in a stressful situation, my daughter can not make decisions without leaning on friends for advice. I have tried to keep a list of things I feel she will need to know when the time comes, but my list is in dire need of being updated.

Plan Ahead

Planning ahead now will let you remain in control, whether you are lying in a hospital bed or the morgue.

Do you have a living will? Mine is only legal in my state of residence.

Do you want to be an organ donor but have not signed the back of your driver’s license? Someone should know your wishes.

Do you want a funeral or a memorial service? Will you be cremated or buried?

Where is the deed to your property or the title to your vehicle? Do you have an up-to-date will that can be easily located? Is it locked in a safe and no one has the combination but you? Or maybe these documents are in a safety deposit box that no one knows you have. IRAs, CDs, insurance policies – does anyone know they exist?

Do you have financial obligations that are automatically billed to your credit card or deducted from your bank account?

If you keep important information on your computer, will someone need a password to access this information? What about your myspace or facebook account? What will happen to your blog? I found a post on ProBlogger addressing this subject, but the post is rather old.

When going through your personal belongings, will they find things you thought no one would ever know about?

Do you have valuables hidden in something that could be given to charity or thrown away?

If I have made you think about your own situation and the obstacles that your survivors may encounter, then I have accomplished what I intended.

Gimme a Kiss!

Hershey\'s KissA Hershey’s Kiss that is.

Hmmm, Kisses are probably not considered a “healthy” chocolate as discussed at Cocoanut Weblog. The ingredients on the bag don’t mention flavonoids. Maybe that is why they taste so good!

I buy a 19.75 oz bag of Kisses at least once a week. There is a special bowl for them in a specific place in the frig and it is never empty. Kisses and coffee or Kisses and diet Coke; I am addicted to Kisses.

Memorial Day

Tears filled my eyes this morning when I watched the few seconds of news coverage given to Rolling Thunder.

For those of you not familiar with Rolling Thunder, let me explain. Every year for the last 21 years (including this year), thousands of motorcyclists from all over the country including Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada, descend upon Washington, D.C. to bring awareness of our POWs and MIAs left behind in war.

My tears began to fall as I remembered proudly riding my bike alongside my husband, 19 years ago, as we made the 600 mile ride to D.C., joining up with other groups along the way. Vehicles pulled onto the shoulder of the road to make way for the 400 plus pack of bikers. Flags waved from overpasses, some saluted as we passed.

Our two day trip eventually put us in the parking lot of the Pentagon, where we were joined by thousands of other bikers preparing to ride in the parade. My husband, known to most as “Pappy”, represented the state of KY by displaying the KY POW-MIA flag on his bike.

Rolling Thunder

Pappy survived the Viet Nam war but he did not survive his battle with cancer.

This Memorial Day has brought me to tears and gave me smiles as I reflected on my life with him.

My heart aches for those who have lost loved ones, regardless of how or when they died. My prayers are with our military as they defend our freedom.

Hello and welcome to my new little piece of the internet.

There is no doubt in my mind that this blog will be viewed by some with the opinion that I should have left this undertaking to the professionals.  And that is OK because I am here for the fun, not the fame and fortune. With that said and out of the way…..

Now I have to get WordPress set up on my own space for my real blog. Wish me luck!
